Community Events
We love art and try to support as many art related events as possible in our community. Some of our supported events are:
”Art for Animals” silent art auction to benefit our local Animal Welfare Alliance.
Each spring, area artists donate 5×7 works of art, which we then frame and prepare for the auction. This past April, we had 94 works of art donated and we raised approximately $3,500. for AWA. We kick off the event with an opening reception and an “unveiling” of the artwork. Bidding continues for two weeks, and closes with a reception that is a frenzy of last minute bidding! Fun awards are given to the artists for highest bid, most bids, and other categories. Stay tuned on how you can participate next year in this fun event!
“Elementary Art Contest” for National Art and Framing Month.
We proudly host an Elementary Art Contest for the children of Poplar Bluff. The chosen artwork goes on display at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum, with awards given to the top 3 submissions in each grade and a overall Grade Prize Winner. The first place winners all get their artwork framed, and the second and third place winners get theirs matted and mounted. The teacher of the Grand Prize Winner also receives a basket full of art supplies. The show is on display for the month of October, to coincide with October as National Art and Framing Month. We have had well over a thousand submissions for the show during each of the past two years!
”UCAN Love Art!” is a fundraising event held every October to benefit our local United Cancer Assistance Network.
Also held in October to celebrate National Art and Framing Month, we host an art auction featuring the artwork of professional area artists and craftsmen. The auction donations are held to 15 pieces, which we mount and frame if needed. We also have a evening of fun art related games and activities for auction goers to participate in. All proceeds go to UCAN.
